New Jersey Columbiettes Legislation/Respect Life Newsletter
Annual March for Life: The annual March for Life took place in Washington D.C. on January 18, 2019. Once again, many Columbiettes and Knights and youth groups, along with general members of the public, participated in this important event. Among those dignitaries addressing the participants was Vice President Pence. Many thanks to all who braved the winter weather to take a stand for life.
Marist Poll: The Marist Poll, sponsored and funded in partnership with the Knight of Columbus, recently conducted a poll of 1,066 adults from January 8, 2019 through January 10, 2019. The poll finds “that overwhelming majorities support substantial restrictions and would like to see Roe v Wade reinterpreted to allow restrictions.” (To find more complete information, Google Marist Survey/abortion.)
Legislative Information: The Pain- Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (previously designated as A3452/S2026) did not pass in the past two-year session. The new bill numbers are A1686 and S2026. Both bills are awaiting hearings in committee. The New Jersey Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act, Ai504, is currently in the second reading in the Assembly and S1027, the corresponding bill, is in the Senate Health Committee. Neither bill is scheduled for legislative action at this time. As always, contact your local congressional legislators and senators to voice your opinions on these bills. *
Prayer for Life and Dignity:
Eternal God, creator and sustainer of life, bless us with the courage to defend all life from the moment of conception to natural death. Bless us with the strength to respect all peoples from east to west, from north to south, so that we may truly follow the call of Jesus to be neighbor. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, Amen
