LEGISLATION UPDATE:  Resource – New Jersey Right to Life

New Jersey State Legislature will be meeting in September and the New Jersey Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act (A1504/S1072), which is out of committee, will likely be up for consideration and action may be forthcoming. There are two areas of concern: euthanasia and assisted suicide. There is concern that the safeguards in the bill are weak and could lead to abuse of the elderly and disabled. Currently only Oregon, Washington, and Montana have legalized assisted suicide. NJRTL states that “it is extremely important that pro-life citizens make advance care planning for end of life care.” (NJRTL PAC)

Suggested action: Consider filling out a Protective Medical Decisions Document (PMDD) which includes an Advance Directive, a Living Will, and Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care. If you would like to obtain a PMDD, call 800-958-5678 between 8:30am and 4:30pm

A Family Blessing (CRS)

Lord of all, bless our families, be they formed by blood or by circumstance. Make them holy. May we find you in our relationships, in our marriages, in our families, in our households, in our communities, in our global humanity. May we look across all that divides us and see family, and embrace as a family does, and love as a family ought to. For where two or three gather in your name, There are You. Amen

Let us continue to pray for the unborn, for all who suffer from illness, and for all those affected by natural disaster, especially the fires in California, and for the fire-fighters who are so bravely fighting them.
