Happy February! Wishing all my sister Columbiettes a Happy Valentine’s Day!
With the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, I asked our State Chaplain Fr. Bill to write a few words this month. This is Fr. Bill’s message:
February 14 is traditional Valentine’s Day. Because of the nature of the day, many couples get engaged. Some couples get married on February 14. This year February 14 is also Ash Wednesday. For you and I
Ash Wednesday overrides any other celebration. For Catholics and some other Christians, Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent which is a period of repentance and the opportunity to come closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. As we prepare for the celebration of Lent let us remember the three pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting and acts of charity toward others. As we practice the three pillars of Lent may we draw closer to Jesus as the Season of Lent ends and we prepare to celebrate the Easter Triduum, Jesus’ Resurrection and the Season of Easter.
